Carmen’s Muesli Promoting Waste?
Shopping at IGA Pyrmont today, I was comparing muesli when I came across this.

The left side is 500grams, and costs $4.99. The right is 1.5kg, and costs $15.79.
By buying 3 boxes on the left, you save 83 cents, and waste 3x more cardboard, which takes up extra space in shipping and disposal, as well as, most importantly 3x many trees are required for packaging.
I’ve e-mailed Carmen’s, and linked to this page, hopefully there’s a very simple and logical reason for this. I don’t believe Carmen’s to be that kind of company.
UPDATE:27 June; (1 day later) I just got a reply from Carmen’s it’s below.
Thank you so much for your email and drawing this issue to our attention.
We actually sell Carman’s to a NSW distributor, who then sells it on the IGA. The price we sell the 1.5kg bag to our distributor is significantly cheaper than what 3 x 500g boxes cost, as you are right, there is a saving in packaging.
For some reason, the final supermarket price has been marked up more on the 1.5kg then the 500g. We are so grateful for you bringing this to our attention and will follow up with both our distributor and IGA to see what the reasoning for this is.
Carman’s is proudly carbon neutral and we would never intentionally do something which would create unnecessary waste.
Again, thank you for drawing our attention to this, allowing us the opportunity to follow up.
With Kind Regards,
Justine Flemming
