Twitter Survival Guide

In the last few days, quite a few mates have jumped onto Twitter. When I first joined, I found it hard to interact with, and couldn’t see the value. All around me people were saying how good it was, but it wasn’t working for me. Below are a few tips that have helped me find the value, and enjoy my Twitter experience.

1)Twitter in Plain English

A simple video explaining the benefits of Twitter. “Real life happens between blog posts and e-mails”

2)Get a Good Twitter Client
Twittering from the web isn’t a fun experience. Get a client, make it fun! Tweetie for OSX, Tweetie for an iPhone, and something for Windows

3)”Follow Many, Cull Often” @lachlanhardy

A good way to start developing a network, is follow every @ that enters your stream, but then strip back as often. Less is sometimes more on Twitter.

4)140 Characters, what to input?

“I’m more interested in what you think or feel about the things that happen to you”, is one Twitter Strategy. Twitter to me, is a very personal, open and sharing medium. This idea/feeling is also communicated through the link above. (via lachstock)

5)Developing a brand? Make it human, on Twitter.

6)The Ten Twitter Commandments
If you want to get followers, there’s a few universal rules, that must not be broken.

7)Twitter Toys and Tools
Below’s a list of 3rd party tools that help get some extra Twitter Juice;-

Twitter Karma - A way of managing who’s following who. More info.
TweetWheel - A visual method of seeing who your friends are following that you follow
Twemes - Useful in creating a back-channel at events. EG @ Interesting South II , #ISII was used
Quotably - Allows you to see how other people are replying to a question/conversation.

Hope this is of some help, feel free to tweet @wadeis if you want a hand.
