Everything is inter-dependant and inter-related. Networks and Security Systems are developed for A Greater Purpose. They are transports, junctions, and filters of information. Network & Security Systems follow this inter-dependence/relation. The internet is made up of thousands of networks sharing their addresses with all the other networks, and it relies upon thousands of other networks to send their addresses to it. With this in mind, we now look at the hiring of staff.
1)Creative thinking, problem solving, and the ability to learn is more important than a single technology or platform.
2)Understanding the technology, is greater than only understanding a single application of the technology.
To me, this is logical, and can easily be displayed through carpentry. Being a carpenter and knowing how to only use a single type of hammer(single vendor) is no good. Every hammer(vendor) is slightly different, the function remains the same, only the implementation varies slightly. Understanding how all hammers functions work, and using a few different types is by far advantageous to knowing just one hammer. Our singled-tool carpenter is also living in isolation, unable to understand, let alone use all the other tools(technologies) in the workshop(network) and understand how they interact with the timber(information).
Our carpenter’s mate, also a carpenter, but this time with both the points above. He has a bit of experience with every type(technology) and every brand(vendor) of tool in the workshop(network). He understands the theory behind all tools, knowing how they work, what they do, where they go, and has the ability to master any tool quickly after picking it up. He can suggest tools to fix problems, he can look at what’s going on, and understand what’s happening with the timber(information). If asked to pick a specific tool, he has no problems, and can use it straight away at a decent level, and quickly becomes a master of the tool.
We should welcome the jack of all tools, master of none, for he lives in reality. Reality is not clearly defined. It’s neither Prickles or Goo. Zoom in on Prickles, it becomes Goo, zoom in more, and it’s Prickles again. Reality is a bit hazy, there’s no clear boundaries, everything’s reliant, existing with and within everything else. Reality is Prickly-Goo and Gooy-Prickles.
