A Whole New Mind

Now, it maybe because I’m left handed, thus right brained, but this is really clicking with me.

Pink claims we’re living in a different era, a different age. An age in which those who “Think different” may be valued even more than ever.[1]

“…an age animated by a different form of thinking and a new approach to life — one that prizes aptitudes that I call ‘high concept’ and ‘high touch.’ High concept involves the capacity to detect patterns and opportunities, to create artistic and emotional beauty, to craft a satisfying narrative….High touch involves the ability to empathize with others, to understand the subtleties of human interaction…”
— Dan Pink, A Whole New Mind

Six fundamental aptitudes
The six fundamental aptitudes outlined by Pink can be applied to many aspects of our personal and professional lives.[1]
(1) Design.
(2) Story.
(3) Symphony.
(4) Empathy.
(5) Play.
(6) Meaning.

[1] A BIG thank you to Presentation Zen for summarising A Whole New Mind so well, and presenting Pink to my eyes and ears for the first time. I’m yet to read the book, so am unable to make my own summary of it currently. It’s on my wishlist and will be in my next order. It’s their book of the year; I have no doubts it will be a fantastic read.
