Google WAS Down (@ Least From Down Under)
A very interesting thing happened tonight. I was at work and decided to google something. I could not reach www.google.com I tried again. No answer. I feared it was my end. I then went to yahoo.com and smh.com.au fine. google.com was still down. gmail.com was down as was blogger.com
There was a google outage of some kind. I’ve done a check of technorati and google blog search, but no one’s got anything of substance. The outage was not restricted to AU, there’s been chatter on /. also being effected.
The funniest thing about this outage is how many people thought ‘the internet was down’. Two people personally freaked me out over a 10 minute period saying it was down. People have become so reliant on Google that if they can’t get there, it’s ‘the internet’ not Google.
I’m very interested in what the issue was. I’m feeling it was a DNS issue based on the 2 second look I had, if anyone cares.
